For family night last night, we had a lesson on "garbage words". Well, this also included phrases and actions. It was a very effective lesson, and one that the kids found very fun. I put a bunch of words on pieces of paper, some nice words, some mean, bad, or what we call, "garbage" words. If the word was a bad one, we put it in the garbage sack.
Here's an example of just a few of them I made:
So as I mentioned, it was so fun for them, that when I woke up this morning, Jordyn had already made a whole list of other words we should cut out and label good or garbage. Although I don't know how you label these words, hahaha. Jordyn's so cute. Here's an example of just a few of them I made:
Some on here are jellyfish, house, apple, toe, fish, etc. You can read it, I suppose.
This other page was there too. What cracks me up is the word icon. What? Where did she get that? hahaha.
As they get older, I'm sure we'll have to add more words to our garbage list. But they walked around all day saying "oh no! You can't say that, it's a garbage word!" And whenever they did something naughty, we informed them that that was a garbage action, and they stopped immediately. I highly recommend it :)
Funny story- a few nights ago we had a CRAZY storm blow through and it hit about 2:30 am. Jordyn woke up because of the slamming rain/snow against the windows and the freight train like wind. So she came climbing in our bed. Well, I was already awake. After she came in, I was laying there and I seriously thought there was a tornado headed our way. The wind, it was sooo loud. So I got up and went downstairs just to check for a warning. Well Matt and Jordyn ended up coming down. Good thing too, because once downstairs we discovered that there was a huge puddle of water by our front door, and that water was literally DRIPPING in our front windowsil! We had to take down blind and clean everything up. Our house was flooded. (Ok, that's not the funny part, Matt and I are actually peeved about it). So ANYway, after we're done cleaning Jordyn turns to us and says "So, what's the verdict?" It caught us so offguard, we just bust up laughing. And it distracted from the fact that our house was leaking like a faucet. Lovely! That's when I wanted to say a few garbage words :)

I am totally stealing that idea! Garbage words that you actually throw in the garbage! My kids will love that.
