It all started out innocently enough. While flipping through channels one morning, Jordyn stopped on PBS right as the man on TV said "Fruits and vegetables all have their own superpower that help you become big and strong!" Both sets of eyes from Jordyn and Tyler immediately grew bigger and they turned and looked at me. "WHAT SUPERPOWERS DO YOU GET??? COOL!"
Right then, a carrot popped up on the screen. "Mom! What do carrots help you do?"
"Well, they help you see better", I replied. They weren't too impressed.
Seeing an opportunity here, I then said "AND, they help you jump higher!"
"WHOA!!" was what I heard in reply. And this is where it all started
Guess what they ate for lunch AND dinner that day? Carrots. Then they proceeded to jump all over the place. Taking a bite, then seeing how high they could jump after each bite. It was pretty funny.
So every night after that, they asked us what the particular fruit or veggie we were serving that night did for them. Peaches- run faster. Beans- bigger muscles. Cherries- ride bikes. The list goes on.
A few nights ago, we had black beans with our dinner, and when Matt told them eating beans made their muscles strong, they had to have an Iron Man competition during dinner. This, I had to document.
Tyler flexing his muscles! And showing us how he's so good at eating his beans

Then, he ran to our recliner and lifted it up. Those beans really work!

I LOVE it!! You guys are brilliant! And I'd have to agree with Karen, it's not a lie exactly. Just not the WHOLE truth. ;) I wonder if my kids would go for it ...
Oh Carolyn, we are soooo similar. I'm totally on board with this. (We also share ambivalence toward expensive Valentine's Day flowers)
I also tell my kids that the bigger your taste buds get the more foods you like. And the way you get your taste buds to grow is by trying new foods/ foods you don't like. Yeah, there's a little less truth in that one...
Hah! I love this so much! What a great little white lie! And a stroke of parenting brilliance. :)
Please teach me how to do this for my kids! I love reading your blog :)
