Giving Thanks

I have been avoiding blogging recently, because, well really I have had nothing happy to blog about.  Our life has turned into craziness lately, where it seems that everyday has had at least a few of those "Are you kidding me right now??" moments.  It becomes easy to be discouraged, and distracted by the things that go wrong.  Then, while on Pinterest this morning (get on there if you're not already!!) I found this quote:

"It is not happy people who are thankful,
It is thankful people who are happy"

Wow.

Seriously, it made me think about what a grump I've been, and that despite bad things in life, there is much to be thankful for.  Many people have been doing thankful post on their blog, it being the month of November and Thanksgiving coming.  Now, it's my turn.  Here's just a few:

1. I'm thankful for books!  Oh my, I LOVE to read.  There isn't much better than a book that sucks you in, that your mind cannot stop thinking about.  I am grateful for so much wonderful literature that I can enjoy, and that my kids can enjoy also. What a gift it is to read.

2. I'm thankful for music.  Next to a good book, a good song.  You know those songs you can (and do) listen to over and over, they never seem to get old? They transport you to a happy place? That's what I love about music. I love listening to it, and playing it. I am thankful that Jordyn has the opportunity to learn to play music on the piano.  Music is such a blessing.

3. I'm thankful for Electricity.  I know, who isn't, right? There was a day a week or so ago, that we lost power in our house for 2 1/2 hours.  Our house got cold, the fridge got warm, I couldn't wash dishes or do laundry, and it left us without much of the things we take for granted that run off of electricity.  I don't think I realized how much I depended upon electricity until I didn't have it.

4. I'm thankful to be a Mom.  Being a mom is one of the most rewarding, yet exhausting jobs I'll ever have.  No one can make me happier, yet crazier than my kids, and I love it! My kids are the best (if I do say so :)), and I'm so thankful to have the opportunity to be their mom, to learn and grow from the things that they teach me, for the sacrifices I get to make for them and the blessings I gain from it.  Being a mom is just the best.

5. I'm thankful for good neighbors.  Living in a town home can be tricky. You share walls, your doors are right next to each others, and you have closer proximity in general with your neighbors than you do in a normal house. You just never know what you're gonna get.  Well goodness how we have lucked out in this department!  Our neighbors are the BEST. And Matt and I are so thankful for the people we get to live next to.  Just last week, they let us borrow our dryer when it broke, ran to the store for me for a medication for Reagan when I was waiting for our dryer to be fixed, and gave us brownies on the side.  They have become like family to us, and are truly the best we could ever hope for.  The thought of losing them as our neighbors makes us want to stay in this house forever.

Can I add one more story about our amazing neighbors? This one will forever touch my heart.  The day that we found out we lost our 3rd pregnancy to miscarriage was a heartbreaking day for us.  As Matt and I lay in bed at about 10:30pm that night, trying to get over the shock of our loss, there was a knock on the door.  We answered in our pajamas, and it was our amazing neighbors with goodies in hand, saying that they felt the need to come over and see if we were OK.  They allowed Matt and I to cry to them and they comforted us with hugs as we told them our days events.  I'm so grateful they followed that prompting, and in general have been such amazing neighbors. I get teary just thinking about it.

6. I'm thankful for Matt's job. After going a whole year without full time employment, this is a big one for me.  To have income, any at all, is a blessing that I will not ever take for granted.  Matt works hard for our family, and I'm grateful that he has a job that supports our family, and that he is willing to do whatever it takes for us.

More thankfulness to come!
