The Scissor Incident

Having 4 kids, we have had our share of "incidents". You know, blood, staples, ER/Urgent care visits, etc. A few weeks ago, we had another incident! This one was bad, but could have been a lot worse. We are grateful that it wasn't worse than it was.

We're not quite sure on the details, but Tyler had a pair of sewing scissors (those things are sharp!) and Reagan and Tyler were fighting over the scissors, or paper or something. Somehow, Reagan's arm ended up by the scissors and Tyler ended up cutting her arm. It. Was. Bad. She was bleeding a lot, and screaming. Matt started yelling at the kids to all get in the car, and we drove off to urgent care. When I looked at her cut, you could see the fat and muscle from her arm just protruding out. It was so disgusting. Unfortunately, we don't have a picture of that part! :)  Reagan went into a little bit of shock in the waiting room. She started passing out or something, and Matt would have to shake her a little.

Reagan was so brave when they stitched her up. They numbed her arm, and gave her 5 stitches. (I think he could have done more, he put them really far apart). She didn't even cry the whole time! She sat and watched the doctor stitch her up, and then though they were really cool to look at.

Her poor right hand was sooo swollen for a few days. She became left handed for a while. Even still, she has a hard time using her right hand, but it's slowly getting better.

Here she is painting, with her left hand! She was a trooper.

It's hard to tell, but she had a pretty nasty bruise that was really deep. She was in a lot of pain.

Then after 9 days, we went back and had them taken out. The nurses loved Reagan, since she was always smiling! She did have to have dad with her. Surprise surprise!

The after math.

And a few days later!

It's finally starting to look better. She will always have a nasty scar, but luckily she think it's pretty cool. I'm still a little worried about her right hand/finger movement. She has a hard time using her index and middle fingers sometimes, and has a hard time grasping things. Plus, she still complains about pain in her hand and fingers. I think it's going to be a while until she's back to normal. We have put away the scissors and are hoping we don't have another bad incident like this again.

Poor girl. The pictures you showed were pretty gruesome so I can only imagine the initial injury. Poor girl. I can't believe how brave she was through the whole thing. I don't think any of my kids would have been that brave. =/
