Catching Up

Oh hey there, blog world. Long time no see! Time to get back at it. First, an update on my four favorite kids. (They're out of order, but oh well.)

Tyler: Well, most excitingly, Tyler had a birthday recently! He is now a cool 9 year old. I wish I had a picture of his cool hair, he's starting doing his own hair. He uses a lot of gel and a toooon of pomade. Some days he spikes it in the front, and lately he's been doing his own fauxhawk. It's too cool. He's the coolest.  Tyler is doing great at school, and if you ever need a huge confidence booster, pretend you're his mom and go to a parent/teacher conference! He is excelling in every possible way.  His newest academic venture will be GT Geometry. We're excited for him!

His new favorite sport is football. It's all he plays at school. A few months ago, I bought him a fun football that was rainbow colors. He had been taking it with him to school. So one day before his birthday I asked him if he was still enjoying playing with his football at school. He replied "Uh, well, no one likes to play with my football because it's rainbow colors. It's not really a real football". Ha! So for his birthday, I went and bought him a "real" football. It's attached to him most of the time. Love this cool kid.

Jordyn: She is growing up TOO FAST! We recently had to enroll her in middle school, which was quite the experience. The school she is zoned for is not at all a good enough school. So, we went searching around. We toured a few schools, and I let her have input on which one she liked better. We thought long and hard about it, and we all felt pretty good about a certain charter school. She loved the fact that there is a uniform dress code, and that you don't get iPads like the public school hands out. (What 10 year old is like this?!?!). But turns out, she had very mature reasons. She did not want to deal with middle school drama over outfits, and hair color, and all that. And with the iPads, she genuinely felt like maybe it could be too much of a distraction. I melted. She's such a good kid.

So, we tentatively decided on the charter school, and she got in, but now I'm having second thoughts. It's a far away school, and we don't know very many people going there. So, we ALSO have her enrolled in a different, public middle school. It's a STEM school, you get your own iPad, everything is on "the cloud", and most of the kids from her elementary school will be going there too. We have yet to make a final decision, but at least we have options. I just cannot believe she'll be in middle school next year!

She is also excelling and doing so well. Jordyn has been making good friends, and is doing well at piano. She is testing really high on her math, and often gets the best test scores in her class on math tests. 5th grade has been a challenge. Her teacher does not shy away from the homework load. The IB program at her school is rigorous and intense. There are so many projects (like the picture below) that require hours and hours of her effort. And she does it all so well. She has really grown up a lot this year, and I am so proud of her!

Jacob: Where do I start with this kid? He also recently had a birthday, and is now 3 years old. But you'd never guess he's only 3. This boy has a mind that runs a mile a minute.  Jacob's currently in the best phase ever- asking "why?". I. love. it. Every night, I spend 30-60 mintues just answering questions before bedtime. And not just random questions, things he's thought about, and are thought through!  He will ask "What are noses for? Why? Why do we have toes? Why do we have arms? What do our brains do? Why are our brains in our heads? What is the outside do? Where do monkeys sleep? Are there beds in the jungle?" and on and on.

One night I asked him why he liked asking so many questions, and he replied "Because I like to learn things!" So there you have it. He is a consious, smart, curious boy. He still loves to play trains, he loves to jump on the trampoline, he loves to play with this siblings, and he loves to sneak in their rooms while they're at school and play with their toys. He is a constant crack up and joy to be around.

Reagan: Reagan loves kindergarten. Loves it! She is a little social butterfly. And look, she wanted bangs, and so I cute her bangs. This was a while ago, they're longer now. But it's been fun to experiment with a new hairstyle. She just demanded it one day, and I had no choice. :) It's so fun to find notes from her in her cute Kindy writing and spelling. I love practicing reading with her, it's such a joy to hear them learn! I love Kindergarten, it's one of my favorite ages. She wishes all the time she had loose teeth, and she is so far, the latest of my older three to lose a tooth. She's anxious for that. She's anxious to grow up and be like her big sister. Soon enough, she will.

Reagan is also doing so well at piano, and she loves it! She also loves to sing along to songs I play on the piano. I so enjoy our singing duet time. I will admit, she has a knack for keeping me on my toes. She is constantly stubborn and hard headed, and making me figure out new ways to parent her in the best way possible. I know that one day this will serve her well, so I'm trying to figure out how to channel her stubbornness and independence in a way that is best for everyone. :). We're getting there. I think... But how boring my life would be without my Reagan.

Yeah!! You're back! And I loved reading the updates about each of your kids. They are all so smart! I LOVE it! And Andrew is having the same issue with his teeth. He wants to lose a tooth SO BAD! But he isn't. And he is by far the latest in losing a tooth. Keep the posts coming!
