Exhibition, phew! First I have to say that I am SO glad this is over. And so is Jordyn. But I am so proud of my girl for the hard work she did. She is amazing!
So, exhibition is basically the Capstone project for her school. Her school is an IB school (International Baccalaureate), and so they do things so much differently than a... "traditional" school. (for lack of a better term). They have lines of inquiry and are all about how what they learn affects the world and the people around them. It is a good concept, but there are some things I don't love about it. It's a completely different style of teaching. There are some things I do like about it though, and overall, it's been a good experience for Jordyn.
The fifth graders have this exhibiton project at the end of the year. They are put in groups, with a parent mentor, and they have 6 weeks to put together a presentation. The presentation included 2 trifolds, a display, an essay, and a slideshow. Then they had to do two presentations in one day last week, for the school, the parents, the school board members, and others. Talk about pressure!
But my Jordyn, she rocked it. This was a LOT of work. She had a group of 4 girls, and they were given the topic of Fashion, and they had to research it, and how it affects our world. How it affects school, culture, and personal interations. I had no idea how much fashion impacted. :)
Jordyn put together this trifold, and had some help from Corbyn. She was so sweet to come over and help her cut out little felt clothes, and glitz it up. They had fun and got some good aunt/niece time.
Last thursday we went over and saw her presentation. One of the girls was sick this week, an I felt so bad for her! All that work to miss the final presentation. Anyway, they rocked it. Jordyn had spent the week before putting together the slide show presentation by herself, and I have to say, girl has got skills! She is very tech savvy and really enjoys the computer stuff.
And this part was my favorite. The group focused a lot on how fashion can affect bullying, cause it or help it. They talked about how people should dress how they're comfortable, and not to be cool. One girl raised her hand and said she was always being made fun of for being too much of a tomboy. One of the other girls in her group told her "You know what? When other people tell you you're weird, you tell them you are perfect just the way you are!" All the kids clapped in agreement, and it was a very sweet moment. They had a great message of empowering yourself, and being confident in how you look and who you are.
It turned out really well. It was long and exhausting, and I am glad it's over, and it was a great experience for her. So proud of my Jordyn girl, and all her hard work.
